Scenario Description
The invasion of the Netherlands was launched with a large German airborne operation. Paratroopers of the 7th Flieger Division were tasked with taking several bridges to open the way for motorized units. The plans also called for them to secure the main airfields surrounding The Hague in order to receive reinforcements. Paratroopers of the 2nd Fallschirmjäger Regiment were dropped above Valkenburg and managed to control the airfield. The Dutch launched several counter-attacks but failed to retake the lost ground. The first aircraft to arrive with reinforcements (47th Infantry Regiment) landed with difficulty on the muddy ground and was destroyed by Dutch artillery. The other German planes abandoned their intended landings and instead were diverted to the beach between Katwijk and The Hague. Alone on the airfield with little support, the German paratroopers were forced to stay on the defensive until the Dutch laid down their arms on May 15.
