Scenario Description
The primary objective of the British 1st Airborne Division was the main road bridge in Arnhem. The three battalions of the 1st Parachute Brigade were to drive for the bridge along three separate routes. 2nd Parachute Battalion’s route – “Lion” – took the battalion south to the river bank and then east toward the bridge. Experiencing relatively little opposition, Major Digby Tatham-Warter had quietly organized a small perimeter under the bridge. The Germans were completely unaware of the British concentrated near the bridge. The British expected only light resistance in the city. As Company A of the 2nd Parachute Battalion was making its final preparations for a coup de main assault on the bridge, three separate groups of Germans converged on the scene. Everyone was in for quite a surprise.
