Scenario Description
During the final phase of Operation TYPHOON, German Panzer-Armee 4 broke through Russian defenses northeast of Moscow. General Reinhardt's Panzer-Korps LVI was able to cross the Moskva-Volga Canal at Yakhroma on 27 November but could not hold its bridgehead. Reinhardt decided to shift to the defense, but was severely limited in both forces and supplies. Unknown to German intelligence, the Russians had accumulated three new armies in this sector. The exposed left flank of the Klin bulge was held by a mere screening force of two depleted motorized infantry divisions. At 0600 on December 6, in freezing conditions, the 1st Shock and 30th Armies crashed into these thinly-held lines, signaling the start of Stalin's winter offensive.
