Scenario Description
After weathering the Japanese attacks, General Zhukov was ready to launch his own offensive. Reinforcements and supplies were built up and on August 20th he was ready to put his double envelopment plan into motion. Both the left and right wings deployed powerful armor forces. His center was to make a frontal assault to pin the Japanese, preventing them from sending troops to either flank. Held in reserve was a mobile armor strike force. The Japanese were shocked by the initial Soviet onslaught but they held their ground all along the front. In the following days, however, the Soviets managed to sweep around the Japanese flanks and by the 23th of August, the Soviet forces had encircled the remaining Japanese army at Khalkhin Gol.

Battle Narrative
The Battles of Khalkhin Gol were the decisive engagements of the undeclared Soviet–Japanese border conflicts fought among the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Japan and Manchukuo in 1939. The conflict was named after the river Khalkhin Gol, which passes through the battlefield. In Japan, the decisive battle of the conflict is known as the Nomonhan Incident after Nomonhan, a nearby village on the border between Mongolia and Manchuria. The battles resulted in the defeat of the Japanese Sixth Army.
