Scenario Description
As the Japanese recovered from their failed offensive from early July, Zhukov planned a Soviet infiltration. A Soviet faint would hold the enemy in position in the south while his real plan unfolded. On July 7th a combined force of infantry, artillery, and armor crossed the Halha River in search of the Japanese HQ. Japanese outposts, however, detected the advancing Soviet force and open fire. The Soviets scattered for cover and after a short exchange of fire retreated back to the west side of the river.

Battle Narrative
The Battles of Khalkhin Gol were the decisive engagements of the undeclared Soviet–Japanese border conflicts fought among the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Japan and Manchukuo in 1939. The conflict was named after the river Khalkhin Gol, which passes through the battlefield. In Japan, the decisive battle of the conflict is known as the Nomonhan Incident after Nomonhan, a nearby village on the border between Mongolia and Manchuria.
