Scenario Description
On July 5th, Lafayette reached Chickahominy Church near Green Springs farm. With him he had advance elements of Wayne’s Pennsylvanians. Before him Cornwallis had placed a detachment of the Queen’s Rangers and a mix of infantry. The rest of his army was hidden behind a forest on the north bank of the James River. Seizing what he thought was an opportunity, Lafayette ordered Wayne forward and went about setting up his battle lines around the Green Springs area. The British soldiers stubbornly defended every inch of ground, but nonetheless were pushed back by the continental forces. By 5:00 pm Allied reinforcements had arrived. Lafayette became suspicious of a possible ruse.
