Scenario Description
The Reinhard Line ran through the town of San Pietro In fine, which occupied the Mignano Gap, blocking Route 6 and Allied access to Cassino and Rome. The Germans turned the town into a strongpoint, defended by the second Battalion of the 15th Panzergrenadier Regiment. The 141st Regiment of the 36th were detailed to attack San Pietro, aided by the 753rd Tank Battalion, but the tanks took heavy casualties descending the winding hill road northeast of San Pietro. After several attacks and counterattacks the Germans pulled back from San Pietro as the dominating ground on both flanks (Mount Lungo and Mount Sammucro) had been captured by the 36th. Such was the destruction that San Pietro Infine was left in ruins and the inhabitants built a new San Pietro nearby.
