Scenario Description
The battered and desperately understrength remnants of the 11th Indian Infantry Division withdrew from Gurun to take up positions in the Kampar area under their new commander, General Archibald Paris. They dug-in between the jungle around the Sungai Kampar River and the central Malayan mountains, surrounding the town of Kampar. Due to heavy losses the Leicester and Surrey regiments had amalgamated to form the British Battalion and had dug-in around the trunk road just south of Dipang. The Jats and 1/8th Punjabi regiments had similarly amalgamated to become the Jat/Punjab Battalion and formed the reserve force deployed near Kampar. The Japanese Ando regiment cut its way through jungles to the west in a flanking maneuver, while the Okabe regiment made an assault straight down the road and a battalion of the Japanese 11th regiment made a flanking run east through the mountains. The Japanese captured part of Thompson ridge along the road, but were beaten back after a brave counter-attack by the Sikh and Gujar sepoys led by Captain John Graham who died in the attack. During four memorable days of fighting, the Japanese suffered their first real defeat and it was to scratch units supported by powerful British artillery deployed in the mountains. The British Battalion performed so well in this battle that the Japanese suspected they were facing Australians! However, a Japanese landing on the coast farther south rendered the Kampar position untenable and General Paris ordered yet another withdrawal.

Battle Narrative
The Malayan campaign was a military campaign fought by Allied and Axis forces in Malaya, from 8 December 1941 – 31 January 1942 during the Second World War. It was dominated by land battles between British Commonwealth army units, and the Imperial Japanese Army with minor skirmishes at the beginning of the campaign between British Commonwealth and Royal Thai Armed Forces. The Japanese had air and naval supremacy from the opening days of the campaign. For the British, Indian, Australian and Malayan forces defending the colony, the campaign was a total disaster.
