Seems like the black-headed devils are everywhere . . . " —Entry found in the diary of a German officer killed at Anzio After several days of fierce hand-to-hand fighting at the Factory site between the paratroopers of the 82nd AAB and the Panzer Grenadiers of the 3rd PzG Division, H Company 504th PIR was committed to a dangerous rescue mission. A British General was in the hands of a security detachment from the 29th Infanterie Regiment, a veteran unit that fought in France and Russia. The village, where the general was held, became Hell: the right place for Devils in Baggy Pants to roam. - Yvan Descotes

Battle Narrative
The Battle of Monte Castello was an engagement that took place from 25 November 1944 to 21 February 1945 during the Italian campaign of World War II. It was fought between the Allied forces advancing into northern Italy and the dug-in German defenders. The battle marked the Brazilian Expeditionary Force's entry into the land war in Europe. Starting in November 1944, fierce combat dragged on for three months, ending on 21 February 1945. Six Allied attacks were mounted against the German forces, four of which were tactical failures.
