Scenario Description
After the Russians captured Krasny Bor, lead armored units approached the village of Chernichevo in the effort to a large portion of the German 18th Army. On the night of the 10th, a German kampfgruppe was sent to block the Russians. At first light, the German tanks opened fire as the Russians prepared their assault. Quickly the fight became a long-range armor duel. Despite losses, more and more Russian tanks approached the German tanks. By sheer weight of numbers, 8-10 reached the positions occupied by the lighter German panzers, which were massed on a slight rise. As the first topped the slope, a concealed “88” opened fire, knocking out three in rapid succession. Then the gun was destroyed by a direct hit. Nonetheless, the combined fire of the Tigers with this AA gun had turned the tide and stopped the Russian attack.

Battle Narrative
The Battle of Krasny Bor was part of the Soviet offensive Operation Polyarnaya Zvezda in the Eastern Front of World War II. It called for a pincer attack near Leningrad to build on the success of Operation Iskra and completely lift the siege of Leningrad, in the process encircling a substantial part of the German 18th Army. The offensive near the town of Krasny Bor formed the western arm of the pincer. The Soviet offensive began on Wednesday, 10 February 1943, and produced noticeable gains on the first day but rapidly became a stalemate. The strong defense by the Spanish Blue Division and the German SS Polizei Division gave the German forces time to reinforce their positions. By February 13, the Soviet forces had stopped their offensive in this sector.
