Scenario Description
In early February 1951, General Gay was reassigned to Eighth Army staff and replaced with former First Team executive officer General Charles D. Palmer. 5th Cavalry received a boost with the addition of a 3rd Battalion, transferred from the stateside 14th Infantry Regiment, a top-notch Regular Army formation specially trained in mountain warfare. The new battalion was commanded by WWII veteran Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Treacy. Having escaped the trap at Unsan relatively unscathed, 5th Cavalry was now at full strength. When the 23rd Infantry Regiment and the French Battalion became besieged at Chipyong-ni, General Ridgway (now commanding Eighth Army following the death of General Walker) turned to Colonel Marcel Crombez and his 5th Cavalry to lead a relief force.

Battle Narrative
The Battle of Chipyong-ni, also known as the Battle of Dipingli, was a decisive battle of the Korean War, that took place from 13 to 15 February 1951 between US and French units of the US 23rd Infantry Regiment and various units of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) around the village of Chipyong-ni. The result was a United Nations Command victory. The battle, along with the Third Battle of Wonju, has been called "the Gettysburg of the Korean War," and represents the "high-water mark" of the Chinese invasion of South Korea. Due to the ferocity of the Chinese attack and the heroism of the defenders, the battle has also been called "one of the greatest regimental defense actions in military history."
