Scenario Description
Lieutenant General Kim Ung and his KPA I Corps were two weeks behind schedule regarding "Operation Order 121"-to take Taegu and Pusan by 6 August. With Eighth Army getting stronger by the day in its defensive positions behind the Naktong, Ung’s situation had become more urgent. The new main axis of attack would be from the south into the area around the town of Waegwan, with its two excellent bridges and numerous shallow fording sites. The KPA 3rd and 10th Divisions crossed the Naktong at several points in the early hours of 15 August and moved towards Eighth Army HQ at Taegu, hoping to deliver a knockout blow. At the farthest end of the flank, next to the ROK 1st Division, stood Lt. Colonel Paul T. Clifford's 2nd Battalion, which had set up mortar positions overlooking the river crossings from Hill 303, the first significant terrain feature east of the Naktong. With the First Team having·to defend a front almost ten miles long, Ung was able to find a place to cross in strength.

Battle Narrative
The Battle of Taegu was an engagement between United Nations Command (UN) and North Korean forces early in the Korean War, with fighting continuing from August 5–20, 1950 around the city of Taegu, South Korea. It was a part of the Battle of Pusan Perimeter, and was one of several large engagements fought simultaneously. The battle ended in a victory for the UN after their forces were able to drive off an offensive by Korean People's Army (KPA) divisions attempting to cross the Naktong River and assault the city. Five KPA divisions massed around the city preparing to cross the Naktong River and assault it from the north and west. Defending the city were the US 1st Cavalry Division and Republic of Korea Army (ROK) II Corps. In a series of engagements, each of the KPA divisions attempted to cross the Naktong and attack the defending forces. The success of these attacks varied, with attacks in the 1st Cavalry Division sector repulsed while attacks in the ROK sector were more successful.
