Scenario Description
After four hours of heavy naval gunfire on 20 October, called 'A-day', the X Army Corps landed on the beach on the east coast of Leyte. The X Army Corps took Tacloban and the airport as soon as possible, both just one mile north of the beach where the force landed. This to secure the sea lane between Leyte and the Samar Islands. Troops of the X Army Corps fought their way to the beach between Tacloban airport and the Palo River. They encountered resistance from the terrain and the Japanese fire. Within an hour of landing, the beachheads were secured enough to receive heavy vehicles and large quantities of supplies. By the end of A-day the X Army Corps had moved inland and occupied the airfield of Tacloban and the hill 'Hill 522'.
