Scenario Description
The day began with a pre-dawn shower of Russian artillery shells all along the German positions south of Stalingrad. As the barrage lifted, Sgt. Albert Pfluger and his men peered out of their foxholes in time to see three T-34s advancing slowly through a smoke screen. Sgt. Pfluger had had the auspicious foresight to position a 75mm gun on his right flank – squarely in the path of the Russian tanks. As the first tank came into full view, the anti-tank gun roared to life and the skirmish began.

In the Battle of Stalingrad, Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in Southern Russia. Marked by fierce close-quarters combat and direct assaults on civilians in air raids, it is one of the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare, with an estimated 2 million total casualties. After their defeat at Stalingrad, the German High Command had to withdraw considerable military forces from the Western Front to replace their losses.
