Scenario Description
After licking its wounds amid two days of local German counterattacks, the 23rd Infantry Regiment was able to bring more supporting elements, including a tank platoon, to assist in a renewcd assault around Hill 192. This time, with three full battalions abreast, the point of the spear was provided by Companies E and G of 2nd Battalion, which included the available armor support. Company F held defensive positions against the southern slope of Hill 192, while the other two companies attacked at 0800 through the hamlet of Bérigny and attempted to gain a flanking position against the German paratroopers of Fallschirmjager Regiment 3.

Battle Narrative
The Battle of Saint-Lô is one of the three conflicts in the Battle of the Hedgerows, which took place between July 7–19, 1944, just before Operation Cobra. Saint-Lô had fallen to Germany in 1940, and, after the Invasion of Normandy, the Americans targeted the city, as it served as a strategic crossroads. American bombardments caused heavy damage and a high number of casualties, which resulted in the martyr city being called "The Capital of Ruins", popularized in a report by Samuel Beckett.
