Scenario Description
At the end of the Normandy campaign, Allied troops ran to the Seine River to prevent the Germans from re-forming a front line on the river. On August 18th, when the first tanks of the 5th US Armored Division appeared at Pacy-sur-Eure, General Kuntzen, commander of the 81 Armeekorps ordered the Kampfgruppe Wahl to stop them on the road between Pacy-sur-Eure and Vernon. On August 20th, this Kampfgruppe, composed of seventeen Panther and two Tiger tanks, surprised the Americans and inflicted heavy losses on them. The US tanks, with support of artillery and fighter-bombers, attempted to break the front at Brecourt castle and then push on to the village of Blaru but they were unsuccessful. In the evening, a new US attack developed on the west of La Heunière, bypassing the German front. Unfortunately this success had no follow-up because the US soldiers were afraid of night fighting. The Allied forces had to wait until the Kampfgruppe Wahl left the area on August 21st to seize La Heunière.
