Scenario Description
A strong Japanese infantry force crossed the Halha River during the night of July 2 and occupied the Bain Tsagan Heights. Zhukov quickly organized a counter attack using the 11th Soviet Tank Brigade, supported by the 7th Armored Brigade. The Japanese forces were ill-equipped to face tanks and resorted to Molotov cocktails. The Japanese spearhead on the west side of the Halha River was blunted and the Japanese infantry was eventually forced to withdraw. On the other hand, the fighting on the east side of the river raged on for 3 days. Poor coordination by the Japanese forces, however, brought what seem to be a crushing force in the Japanese 4th and 3rd armor to a grinding halt.

Khalkh River, Mongolia
Battle Narrative
The Battles of Khalkhin Gol were the decisive engagements of the undeclared Soviet–Japanese border conflicts fought among the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Japan and Manchukuo in 1939. The conflict was named after the river Khalkhin Gol, which passes through the battlefield. In Japan, the decisive battle of the conflict is known as the Nomonhan Incident after Nomonhan, a nearby village on the border between Mongolia and Manchuria. The battles resulted in the defeat of the Japanese Sixth Army.
