Scenario Description
In the clash between Soviet and German forces during the summer of 1942, the Italian Cavalry Regiments of Colonel Bettoni were tasked with defending the Don River. On August 20, the Soviets attacked; their initial assault on the left flank was soon pushed back by Italian horse guns. Seeing his enemy in retreat, Bettoni ordered a Cavalry squadron after them. Swords held high, they charged, before veering toward the center of the Soviet lines. A second Cavalry squadron soon charged in support. Caught between the Italians, the Soviet Infantry held their ground until a third Cavalry squadron squashed all hopes of Resistance and over 900 men surrendered after heavy losses. In a glorious victory, the last great cavalry charge in the history of modern warfare was over.

Battle Narrative
Case Blue was the German Armed Forces' name for its plan for the 1942 strategic summer offensive in southern Russia between 28 June and 24 November 1942, during World War II. The operation was a continuation of the previous year's Operation Barbarossa, intended to knock the Soviet Union out of the war. It involved a two-pronged attack: one from the Axis right flank against the oil fields of Baku, known as Operation Edelweiss, and one from the left flank in the direction of Stalingrad along the Volga River, known as Operation Fischreiher.
