Scenario Description
The Hel Peninsula, including a Polish military port, was one of the longest-defended pockets of Resistance in Operation Fall Weiss. Approximately 3000 Polish defenders held out for almost a month against German ground, air, and naval forces. During the battle a coastal battery damaged the battleship Schleswig-Holstein and the Hel anti-aircraft guns proved extremely efficient, shooting down around 50 aircraft. After being stopped by the Polish defenses, the Germans brought in massed artillery and slowly fought their way across the peninsula against stiff Resistance and counter attacks. Despite their heroic Resistance, Counter-Admiral Józef Unrug finally gave the order to surrender when it became obvious that no relief would be forthcoming and they had run out of food and supplies.
