Scenario Description
While the Japanese 5th Division was engaged in a fierce battle around Gemas to the east, the Konoe Imperial Guards Division under Lieutenant-General Nishimura attacked down the west coast of Malaya. Facing them were elements of the 8th Australian Division and the 45th Indian Brigade under General Gordon Bennett. The Japanese advance was swift again, with the 5/18th Garhwal Rifles being ambushed on their way to fortify Parit Jawa. At the same time, the Ogaki Detachment cut east through the dense jungle in an attempt to encircle the strong British position at Bakri. Adding to the defenders' headache, Japanese force in small boats landed just south of Batu Pahat and the 2nd Cambridgeshires were sent to deal with this new threat. The Japanese sent tanks down the road towards Bakri, but they were unsupported by infantry and were demolished by Sergeant Thornton's and Sergeant Parson's 2pdr anti-tank guns. Undeterred, the tankers continued their assault on foot, reaching the bridge at Parit Sulong. Troop citations were awarded to the Ogaki Battalion and the Gotanda Medium Tank Company for bravery and sacrifice.

Battle Narrative
The Malayan campaign was a military campaign fought by Allied and Axis forces in Malaya, from 8 December 1941 – 31 January 1942 during the Second World War. It was dominated by land battles between British Commonwealth army units, and the Imperial Japanese Army with minor skirmishes at the beginning of the campaign between British Commonwealth and Royal Thai Armed Forces. The Japanese had air and naval supremacy from the opening days of the campaign. For the British, Indian, Australian and Malayan forces defending the colony, the campaign was a total disaster.
