Scenario Description
Malaya's supposed first line of defense, the formidable British battleships Prince of Wales and Repulse, were languishing at Singapore. Untroubled by them, the Japanese 5th Division landed at Singora and Patani in Thailand, and simultaneously elements of 18th Division landed at Kota Bharu in northern Malaya. The rest of 18th Division and the Imperial Guards Division were to follow in a second wave. Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, Guam, Hong Kong, and Wake Island were also attacked on the same day. Japan had irrevocably entered the war. After an essentially unopposed landing at Singora, and pressing south-west along the road towards Ban Sadao on the frontier with Malaya, the leading detachment of 5th Division under the tough old fighter Lieutenant-Colonel Shizuo Saeki clashed with a British mechanized force under Major Andrews. Shaken by the speed and ferocity of the Japanese advance, the British rapidly withdrew south of the border. In the wreckage of a British armored car, the Japanese were delighted to find a map of the defenses around Changlun and Jitra, the next towns in their path of advance.

Battle Narrative
The Malayan campaign was a military campaign fought by Allied and Axis forces in Malaya, from 8 December 1941 – 31 January 1942 during the Second World War. It was dominated by land battles between British Commonwealth army units, and the Imperial Japanese Army with minor skirmishes at the beginning of the campaign between British Commonwealth and Royal Thai Armed Forces. The Japanese had air and naval supremacy from the opening days of the campaign. For the British, Indian, Australian and Malayan forces defending the colony, the campaign was a total disaster.
