Scenario Description
The assault craft and control officers were still trying to sort things out for the landing on Namur when the signal was given to attack. Col. Hart, seeing the Roi assault was already under way, realized that his entire operation would soon be in danger and let his disorganized assault waves go forward. As a result, tanks and infantry landed at about the same time, but in the wrong sectors; the companies became intermingled yet the Marines pushed forward. Hoping to reduce a Japanese bunker to rubble, a Marines demolition team threw a satchel charge of high explosives into it, discovering to late that it served as a torpedo warhead magazine. The resulting explosion killed twenty Marines, wounded dozens more and covered the entire island in dust. With nightfall coming, the order was given to dig in. The next morning, at first light the tanks regrouped and rolled forward, fighting off and defeating a final Japanese attack.

Battle Narrative
The Battle of Kwajalein was fought as part of the Pacific campaign of World War II. It took place from 31 January – 3 February 1944, on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Employing the hard-learned lessons of the Battle of Tarawa, the United States launched a successful twin assault on the main islands of Kwajalein in the south and Roi-Namur in the north. The Japanese defenders put up stiff Resistance, although outnumbered and under-prepared. The determined defense of Roi-Namur left only 51 survivors of an original garrison of 3,500.
