Scenario Description
After the attack of May 17 against Montcornet, Colonel De Gaulle launched a new drive towards Crécy-sur-Serre. Three armored groups took part in the offensive of the 4th Reserve Armored Division: the 6th Demi-brigade with B1-bis heavy tanks (attacking Chalandry and Mortiers), the 8th Demi-brigade with R-35 light tanks (attacking Crécy), and the 3rd Regiment of Cuirassiers with Somua S-35’s (attacking Pouilly). The 345th Company of D-2 tanks stayed back as a reserve force, ready to help the 8th Demi-brigade if necessary. In Chalandry, French tanks were stopped by enemy artillery crews, which left the town after a short battle. Before Crécy, R-35 tanks were stopped by enemy fire and the 3rd Regiment of Cuirassiers could not enter Pouilly. Thanks to the D-2 tanks which arrived as reinforcements, Crécy was taken, but the tanks had to retreat, nonce again lacking infantry support. The 4th Hunters Battalion, meanwhile, stayed on the right flank to prevent any German attack against Chambry. On the evening of May 17, after several sorties from the Luftwaffe that failed to eliminate Resistance in the area, the 4th Reserve Armored Division had accomplished its mission: Colonel De Gaulle and his men had slowed the enemy, providing enough time for the 6th army to regroup and prepare for battle. However, the 4th Reserve Armored Division had lost more than 90 tanks in the different battles.

Battle Narrative
The Battle of France, also known as the Fall of France, was the German invasion of France and the Low Countries during the Second World War. On 3 September 1939 France had declared war on Germany, following the German invasion of Poland. In early September 1939, France began the limited Saar Offensive. By mid-October, the French had withdrawn to their start lines. In six weeks from 10 May 1940, German forces defeated Allied forces by mobile operations, conquering France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, ending land operations on the Western Front until the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944. Italy entered the war on 10 June 1940.
