Scenario Description
On May 23, the surviving elements of the small Belgian army retreated just behind the river Lys, their last line of defense. Among them was the 1st Division of Chasseurs Ardennais who were deployed between Lootenhulle and Vinkt. On the morning of May 25, German infantrymen of the 255th Infantry Division crossed the by-channel of Meigem and advanced towards Vinkt. The Chasseurs Ardennais held their positions and even launched several counter-attacks that inflicted severe losses on the enemy. The so-called "Bérets Verts" ("Green Berets") heroically fought for three days and still held the town of Vinkt on the evening of May 27. Thanks to their tenacity, the BEF and the 1st French Army Group were able to retreat and reach Dunkirk to be evacuated.
