Scenario Description
The Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge was fought near Wilmington North Carolina. Loyalist Scotsman Donald MacLeod and Donald MacDonald, two veterans of Bunker Hill, went to North Carolina to try to recruit a large loyalist force. On word that 2,000 British troops under Henry Clinton were due to land in North Carolina, Loyalist Governor Martin ordered the tory force to march to meet Clinton. On the morning of the 27th the loyalist forces had reached Moore's Creek with about 800 men. During the night, the continental force had established earthworks around the bridge end, and armed them with field artillery. Lieutenant Colonel Donald MacLeod marched the loyalist forces the few miles from their camp to the bridge. Arriving shortly before dawn he ordered his men to adopt a defensive line behind nearby trees, when a Revolutionary sentry across the river fired his musket to warn of the Loyalist arrival. Hearing this, MacLeod immediately ordered the attack.
