Scenario Description
The Australians had taken Kokoda and were driving toward the north coast of New Guinea. The Japanese forward defense was centered on Gorari. The Australians managed to find a parallel around the Japanese defense and managed to break it into isolated pockets. Realizing their predicament, the isolated Japanese forces broke out any way they could. As the Australians were set to attack one isolated pocket, a breakout effort struck the gap between B and D companies of 2/31 Battalion.
Location
Gorari, New Guinea
Battle Narrative
The Battle of Oivi–Gorari was the final major battle of the Kokoda Track campaign before the Battle of Buna–Gona. Following the capture of Kokoda by Australian forces on 2 November, the Allies began flying in fresh supplies of ammunition and food to ease the supply problems that had slowed their advance north after the climactic battle around Ioribaiwa, which coupled with reverses elsewhere, had stopped the Japanese advance on Port Moresby.
